Spurs Assistant Head Coach Becky Hammon and athletes ages 8 to 18 with cognitive and physical special needs.

WHAT:
A free community event – Hoops for All – hosted by Morgan’s Wonderland on behalf of Coach Hammon.

WHEN: 
Session 1 (Ambulatory Basketball) 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, 2018.
Session 2 (Wheelchair Basketball) Noon-5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, 2018.

WHERE:
Event Center at Morgan’s Wonderland, 5223 David Edwards Drive, near the intersection of Wurzbach Parkway and Thousand Oaks Drive a half-mile west of IH 35 in Northeast San Antonio.

WHY:
To involve athletes with special needs in interactive skills and drills with Coach Hammon and to introduce them to STRAPS (South Texas Regional Adaptive and Para Sports), a Morgan’s Wonderland-sponsored program of fitness and athletic competition in a dozen sports for the special-needs community.

ETC.:
Non-profit Morgan’s Wonderland, the world’s first theme park designed with special-needs individuals in mind and built for everyone’s enjoyment, frequently hosts special events for the special-needs community such as Hoops for All.

Before becoming a professional basketball coach, Hammon played for the San Antonio Stars and the New York Liberty of the WNBA.  On Aug. 5, 2014, the Spurs hired her as the first female full-time assistant coach in NBA history.
