SAN ANTONIO – Morgan’s Wonderland will celebrate Independence Day – Thursday, July 4 – with a Salute to America’s Heroes, a special tribute to those who dedicate themselves to protecting the citizenry including members of the armed forces and first responders such as fire, law enforcement and emergency medical professionals.
Gates at the world’s first theme park designed with special-needs individuals in mind and built for everyone’s enjoyment will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Ultra-accessible™ Morgan’s Inspiration Island splash park also will offer fun in the sun from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Military members, first responders and their immediate families who present valid ID cards at the Welcome Center can obtain a special discounted admission of $9 per person to Morgan’s Wonderland, said Ron Morander, chief operating officer. Admission to Morgan’s Inspiration Island is available for an additional $10 per person. Individuals with special needs and children ages 2 and younger are always admitted free of charge to Morgan’s Wonderland as well as Morgan’s Inspiration Island.
Free food for Morgan’s Wonderland guests will be offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. while supplies last. Hot dogs with all the trimmings will be served, and sodas and bottled water will be available for just a dollar.
“Our Salute to America’s Heroes has become a much-anticipated event on the Morgan’s Wonderland calendar,” Morander said. “Traditionally, this has been a great opportunity for us to shine the spotlight on those men and women who are always at the ready to protect the citizenry and preserve the freedoms we cherish.”
Special entertainment on July 4 at Morgan’s Wonderland will include 10:30 a.m. opening ceremonies. Beginning at 11:30 a.m., The Inclusion Fusion show choir will perform, DJ Happy will provide music for an all-access dance party and Morgan’s Wonderland goodwill ambassadors will lead a parade through the park. Rounding out the lineup will be face painting, accessible midway-inspired games and other interactive fun from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Meanwhile, at next-door Morgan’s Inspiration Island, guests will enjoy all kinds of aquatic fun in the sun, thanks to spouts, geysers, dumping buckets and lots of other get-wet gizmos. The splash park includes five major, tropically-themed splash pads, the River Boat Adventure ride and support facilities such as the Wheelchair Valet, where guests can transfer out of their personal wheelchairs into specially-designed waterproof wheelchairs.
From now through Aug. 18, Morgan’s Wonderland is offering a kaleidoscope of special entertainment on themed days – Musical Monday, Theater Tuesday, Wonderland Wednesday, Twirltastic Thursday, Friendship Friday, Super Saturday and Sunday Funday.
Morgan’s Wonderland offers more than 25 attractions including wheelchair-accessible rides, playgrounds and gardens for everyone’s enjoyment. Paralyzed Veterans of America honored Morgan’s Wonderland and Morgan’s Inspiration Island with the 2018 Barrier-Free America Award, which attests to the parks’ mission of inclusion – bringing together those with and without disabilities for fun and better understanding of one another. TIME included Morgan’s Inspiration Island on the magazine’s 2018 list of World’s Greatest Places.
