SAN ANTONIO – Morgan’s Wonderland will celebrate Independence Day – Monday, July 4 – with a Salute to America’s Heroes, a special tribute to those who dedicate themselves to protecting the citizenry including members of the armed forces and first responders such as fire, law enforcement and emergency medical professionals.
Gates at the world’s first theme park designed with special-needs individuals in mind and built for everyone’s enjoyment will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Free food for guests will be offered from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. while supplies last. Hot dogs with all the trimmings and apple pie will be served, and sodas and bottled water will cost just a dollar.
Military members, first responders and their immediate families who present valid ID cards at the Morgan’s Wonderland Welcome Center can obtain a special discounted admission of $9 per person, said Ron Morander, general manager. Individuals with special needs and children ages 2 and younger are always admitted free of charge.
“Our Salute to America’s Heroes has become a much-anticipated event on the Morgan’s Wonderland calendar,” Morander said. “Traditionally, this has been a great opportunity for us to shine the spotlight on those men and women who are always at the ready to protect the citizenry and preserve the freedoms we cherish.”
Opening ceremonies for the Salute to America’s Heroes will begin at 10 a.m. and will feature musical entertainment by Gabriel Hey, a student at The Academy at Morgan’s Wonderland school for students with special needs, and Sierra Belmares and Elisabeth Raine, members of the Morgan’s Wonderland Welcome Center staff.
