Extreme Makeover: Home Edition – San Antonio Build Schedule

This Saturday, January 14th, we’ll all find out who the lucky family is that will receive the final makeover from Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. A number of greater San Antonio families have been under consideration to be the recipients of the last EM:HE makeover and what makes this project especially compelling is that each of these families has a member who is a wounded warrior.

From the moment Ty Pennington, Michael Molony, Paige Hemmis, Ed Sanders, Xzibit and the rest of the EM:HE crew surprise the family with the news they’ve been chosen, the project will explode in to high-gear. The construction side of the San Antonio build gets in to full swing on Sunday when the existing structure is cleared to make way for the new home and for the next 106 hours an army of over 2,000 skilled and unskilled volunteers will build a dream home for a very deserving family.

Come out and watch as the house goes up. The following is a tentative schedule of the construction:

Saturday – the door knock to notify the family.
Sunday – demo of existing structure, set-up for new foundation.
Monday – pour slab, walls go up.
Tuesday – various installs.
Wednesday – exterior finishing.
Thursday – driveway flatwork and landscaping.
Friday –  landscaping continues and furniture move-in.
Saturday – “Move That Bus!” day

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition has been changing lives in front of millions of viewers for the last nine years and this San Antonio build will be the last episode filmed. So come be a part of something really special, the end of an era. Lets let the world see San Antonio’s heart, come show your support for the family and for the crew of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

The episode will air later this year as a two-hour special on ABC.

Morgan’s Wonderland and “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” Team Up

In case you haven’t already heard, Morgan’s Wonderland is teaming up with “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” (EMHE) to build a home for a deserving family in the Greater San Antonio area. Since the Dec. 3, 2003, premiere of EMHE, the show has helped more than 200 families in need of a new home. This is an exciting opportunity for all of us at Morgan’s Wonderland because, as our founder Gordon Hartman said, “Just like EMHE, Morgan’s Wonderland is all about changing lives for the better.”  It’s also the first time a non-profit like Morgan’s Wonderland has spearheaded an EMHE project.

You may also have heard that, after nine seasons, the Emmy Award-winning series is drawing to an end. While that is true, this will in no way affect the build taking place in the Greater San Antonio area. In fact, the Morgan’s Wonderland project will be the last to be filmed for the series and will be a two-hour special set to air in 2012. That’s why it’s so important to make this build one to remember. To do that, we need your help! We need volunteers and sponsors to help make this project a huge success. If you or your organization would like to get involved and make history, you can provide equipment, materials, furniture, electronics, food, supplies and most importantly man-hours, visit the Morgan’s Wonderland home page.

Skilled Volunteers Needed

If you’ve ever been involved in building a home, you know it’s never an easy task. Suppliers and crews of contractors all working like a well-oiled machine with the goal of getting a house built in a matter of a few months. Imagine the effort required when the goal is to build a house in a matter of 106 hours. Skill and experience are a must to get the job done right.

Morgan’s Wonderland and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition have collaborated to build a home for a wounded warrior in the greater San Antonio. But to make this project a success, we need your help! There is still a urgent need for skilled labor – we need a total of 100 framers, 60 drywall installers, 20 cabinet installers, 30 masons, 30 wood flooring installers, 10 window treatment installers and the list goes on. If you or someone you know has experience in any of these areas, please give of your time and talent. Visit our website and volunteer today.
